Tiers & servings
The right cake, sized right.
Cake sizing trips people up because a tier's servings depend on how it is cut. Using slim wedding slices, each tier serves more than you might expect — so a modest-looking three-tier cake can comfortably feed a hundred guests.
Tell the calculator your guest count and how dessert is served, and it works out the servings you need, then recommends a tier combination to match. Bring the result to your baker as a starting point — they will confirm the exact sizes for your design.
Questions
Cake questions.
How big a wedding cake do I need for 100 guests?
For 100 guests where cake is the dessert, you need about 100 servings — typically a three-tier cake (8, 10 and 12 inch rounds) which serves roughly 118 slim wedding portions. The calculator above recommends a tier combination for any guest count.
How many servings are in each cake tier?
Using slim "wedding" slices, a 6-inch round serves about 14, an 8-inch about 24, a 10-inch about 38, a 12-inch about 56 and a 14-inch about 78. The calculator shows the full chart and adds up your chosen tiers.
Do I need a slice for every guest?
Not always. If you also have a dessert table or late-night snacks, some guests will skip the cake, so you can size down. Choose your dessert style in the calculator and it adjusts the servings you need.
What is the difference between a wedding slice and a party slice?
A wedding slice is slim — about 1 inch by 2 inches — which is where the higher serving counts come from. Party slices are larger and serve fewer people. The calculator uses wedding portions; ask your baker which they quote.
