Gratuities
Thank-yous, budgeted.
Tips add up to a real line in the budget, and they are easy to forget until the week of the wedding. Setting them out early — per vendor, with a sensible percentage — means no scramble for cash and no awkward guesswork on the day.
Tipping norms vary by vendor and region, and a contract may already include a service charge, so treat the defaults as a starting point and adjust each row. When you are set, download the gratuity sheet to prepare labelled envelopes for whoever is handing them out.
Questions
Tipping questions.
How much should you tip wedding vendors?
It varies by vendor. Caterers and venues often add an 18–20% service charge (check before adding more), hair and makeup artists are typically tipped around 20%, photographers and bands 10–15%, and transport 15–20%. The calculator above lets you set a percentage per vendor and totals it for you.
Which wedding vendors should I tip?
Common ones include the caterer or banqueting staff, hair and makeup, the band or DJ, transport drivers, and delivery staff. Tipping the photographer, videographer, florist and planner is appreciated but optional, especially for business owners. Adjust each row to suit.
Do I tip on the full cost including tax?
Usually you tip on the pre-tax subtotal of the service. If a contract already includes a service charge or gratuity, you generally do not need to add more — read the fine print so you do not double-tip.
When and how do I give wedding tips?
Tips are usually given on the day, often in labelled envelopes handed out by a trusted person such as the best man or planner. The PDF gratuity sheet from this tool is a handy checklist for preparing those envelopes.
Is the tip calculator free?
